mrc-Productivity Series / IBM V5R4 OS/400 Licensing Issue

A recent OS/400 update from IBM has caused a licensing problem for several mrc-Productivity Series customers. You might encounter this problem if you apply V5R4 OS/400 updates, upgrade to V5R4 OS/400, or get a new server with a V5R4 OS/400.

You will know that you are affected if, upon typing mrc at a 5250 command line or upon running mrc-supplied commands MRCRPT, MRCRPTSND, MRCSUM, etc., you receive the error message Authorization Error 803 or *SIGNOFF.

IBM has issued a PTF to correct this problem: SI27389. If you encounter these symptoms, please apply this update immediately from IBM to resolve the problem.

If applying that PTF will take some time and you need immediate access to mrc-generated applications, please contact Janet Vick at mrc at 630.916.0662 to request a temporary authorization key. That temporary license will enable you to run mrc-generated applications through the end of the month.

Because this is an IBM OS/400 issue, to recover fully, you will need to apply PTF SI27389 from IBM.

If you have applied a temporary license key from mrc, then you will need to re-apply your permanent mrc authorization key from mrc. Instructions for applying your permanent authorization key from mrc will then follow from mrc’s contract administrator Janet Vick.
